Which courses should I take to create social media videos?

For most people, two one-day courses cover it: Take the Filming With A Smartphone course to shoot good footage, and Video Editing for Social Media to edit it in the free CapCut app. If TikTok is your main channel, add TikTok for Business, and if you edit every day and want more depth, take the two-day CapCut Desktop Intro instead.

If you want to create social media videos you'll need to know how to do two things:

  1. Shoot great content on a smartphone
  2. Know how to edit (ideally using free editing software).

You'll also need to decide whether to teach yourself using tutorials or attend a professional training course.

Tutorials

There are plenty of online tutorials on how to shoot professional-looking video on your smartphone. Some are free and some you have to pay for. This BFI tutorial is a good place to start. This will cover how to frame your shots and the basics of sound, lighting and editing.

Questions people ask

Do I need to do any other courses?

No. These two courses will cover what you need to know to produce high-quality social media videos. If TikTok is your main channel, you might want to consider this TikTok for Business course as it helps you to understand how TikTok's algorithm and feed works. If you are going to edit every day and want to build your skills you could consider taking the CapCut Desktop Intro course instead of the Video Editing for Social Media course as it takes you through the complete editing process, from setting up projects and organising footage to building and refining a finished video.
